Traveling. It may sound like fun, but what if you’re traveling mostly for business? Sometimes “fun” can turn into indifference when it comes to that. As a business owner I travel a lot. If you follow me on Instagram, you see firsthand how crazy my traveling experiences can be. As you know I’m of a busy mom of four and sometimes I have to travel on the weekends to speak at events, which means forfeiting time away from my family. That’s just part of being an entrepreneur though, right? Sacrifices have to be made in order to succeed in your field. Even if you aren’t an entrepreneur, I’m sure you can relate.
Recently I went to Atlanta for a speaking event. I had a tight schedule, as usual, so I had to make sure everything was planned perfectly. I can’t miss meetings or be late to an event because, well, that’s my job. It’s stressful to say the least. Here’s a short list of what I have to do each time I travel, ALL while preparing my family to be without me for a couple days (because let’s be honest, MAMA is NEEDED):
- Book a flight (remember you have to find the best times, which sometimes means leaving at 5 a.m.)
- Book a hotel room that is close to the event center
- Book a rental car
- Prepare my speaking slides
- Rehearse my speech
- PACK
- Prepare my team to tackle business while I’m gone
- Research the city so I have an idea of where I am going
- Contact my client(s) to get the full itinerary of the event
- Input every meeting, event, etc. into my calendar so I am prepared
- Contact any other potential business clients who may be in the area to schedule a brief meeting
Crazy, right? Business travel is no joke, so being prepared is 100% key to having a successful trip. As you know from my previous blog post, I finally found a car rental service with perks that exceed my expectations. For this particular trip to Atlanta I knew I needed a car rental, which was a little nerve racking since my schedule was so tight. But remember, I initially decided to try National Car Rental out because their process seemed like something that was just my speed, FAST. How many of you have rented a car and filled out paperwork for what seems like a lifetime? Me, too. So, when I read up on their fast process I knew I had to give it a try, and I’m really glad that I did.
Like I said before, my schedule was tight so I needed something quick and easy. National’s mobile app was already downloaded on my phone before I landed, that way when I got off the plane I was ready to start the process. As I’m walking to pick up my luggage I logged into the app, started searching for my car and began their rental process. I’m not kidding when I say this, I completed the reservation by the time I picked up my luggage. All I had to do was walk up to my car and drive off. YES, that’s correct. I scanned a code on the car that I chose and got in and drove to my hotel. It was seriously that easy. Do you know how much time I saved? Not to mention I got to choose a luxury car that was similar to what I drive daily, which ensured the same comfort and features that I have at home. Oh and here’s a HUGE plus, every time I rent a car, I earn points towards free rentals OR my hotel/flight. You seriously can’t beat that.
Any stress I had about time was out the window. I was actually AHEAD of schedule because the rental process took a total of 3 minutes. Guys, if you haven’t tried National Car Rental, you need to. They know your time is valuable and it shows.
