In today’s market, social media has become a staple in everyone’s business plan if they are wanting to grow and build their brand. There are endless possibilities when you choose to use social media to market your business. Just think about the target market that you are wanting to reach, then consider who in that target market doesn’t have a social media account. More than likely the majority of those people are going to have some form of social media. I always consider what I use social media for outside of my business (keeping up with family, friends, my favorite brands, sports teams, etc) and that always gives me the reassurance that I am doing the right thing by utilizing this amazing benefit. You should treat your social media accounts like an asset if you don’t already. They have the potential to bring you in some serious cash if you know how to use them properly. Here are a few tips to help you get started with your social media marketing plan:

1. Be Consistent

When it comes to your posts, your message and how frequently you use social media, keep consistency in mind. It is truly the key to success with any social media campaign. Make a plan for what you’re going to post and how often you’re going to post, and stick with it. This should ideally be a few times a day or a week, depending on your goals and your following. You can’t go from posting once a month to five times a day and then back and expect to have an engaged amount of followers. You need to remember that the people who decide to follow you are wanting to know what’s going on it our life, so ghosting them will only turn them away.

2.  Be Smart

Most social media platforms have a great tool that allows you to specify who you reach in your posts. For instance if you have a product that will help women achieve smooth glowing skin without spending thousands of dollars, you could edit your ad to reach women between the ages of 25-65 who follow pages that pertain to skin care and beauty. You can even be so specific to focus on their demographic and other interests that they have. This allows you to maximize your reach without spending the extra money. Who wants to spend money on an ad that isn’t going to reach people who are interested about it? Well, that’s what we did for years with TV ads, radio ads, and newspaper ads. We reached a general population and half of those people weren’t even interested in your product. Talk about a waste.

3.  Find The Perfect Network

Everyone has a specific network that they prefer to use over the others. For me it’s Instagram. I feel like Instagram is a more personal social media platform. You have to upload a picture when you want to share a post so your followers have something to look at rather than just reading a typed out message. It allows you to really choose the perfect photo that will let your followers into your world. People connect when they feel like they have something in common with you so something as small as the same pair of shoes could entice someone to visit your page and start following you.

4.  Choose the Right Content

When you are building your brand it is important to align your message and posts with that brand. For example, if you are an online clothing boutique, you want to make the main focus of your posts about the clothes you have for sale. The followers you have are going to be interested in the clothes they can buy from you so try to stay away from the “spamy” meme posts that people post just for likes. If you want to boost your follows, promote a photo of one of your best outfits and do a giveaway.

5.  Keep It Professional

One of the most important tips I could give you to help you grow your business with social media would be to stay professional with your photos. Choose high quality simple photos with bright lighting. You don’t have to have an expensive camera or hire someone to take your photos, you can achieve a great quality photo with an iPhone in the right lighting. Take a look at my Instagram (@ronnebrown) for an example of bright simple photos that catch the eye.
