Any business professional will tell you how important it is to dress professionally while you are working. Times have changed so much that people are now going to their jobs in comfortable trendy attire and pushing the importance of dressing nice to the back burner.
The major reason why dressing in proper business attire is important for professional businessmen and women is because it presents the image of the brand you are representing. If you want your company or business to be taken seriously, you don’t want to show up to meetings in sweatpants. Also, in my line of work I am constantly running into people I can do business with, so dressing the part is something that is very important to my business.
Have you ever heard someone talk about someone being dressed so nice it was inappropriate? Me either. I have heard people talk about how someone was under dressed or very unprofessional with their attire. My main point is you can never present yourself in a “too professional” manner.
Now, you don’t have to wear a pantsuit everyday in order to present yourself in a professional way. There are still stylish ways of dressing professional without looking too casual. My favorite pieces that I wear are ones that can be dressed up and down depending on the situation. I have a particular dress that I always turn to when I’m not sure how my day will go. The best advice I can give you about dressing professional is to be modest and always be aware of what or whom you might come across in each workday. Try to find professional clothes that are comfortable because believe it or not, you can look nice and be comfortable at the same time. Remember that first impressions are everything so if you show up to a meeting with a potential customer in your sweats from the night before, you probably won’t get their business.
