Last night I was talking to a good friend about Entrepreneurship and how we could get to the next level and help take people with us. At the end of the conversation she said something so profound it really got me thinking. She said, you know if people would have more accountability partners, so many would be where they want to be. So my mind started spinning. We can’t run from other’s like we can run from ourselves, avoiding what we really need to do.
In today’s world too many people avoid accountability for their actions. When things go wrong they find someone or something else to blame. Look around you…I’m sure you’ll see examples.
Too often leaders of organizations take the credit when things go well, but they find ways to avoid responsibility when they get unexpected results. This behavior will not work in the long-term; accountability is too important for leaders to avoid. They need to make every decision with the resolution that no matter what the outcome, they will take responsibility for the results.
We all need some type of accountability. Accountability separates the wishers in life from the action-takers that care enough about their future. Accountability is the key element of leadership. Accountability builds trust, improves performance, promotes ownership, and inspires confidence in others and yourself. So, today many of you are lacking accountability; maybe you are avoiding it because you don’t want to fail in someone else’s eyes. I promise you, if you sit down, ask for help and get the right accountability partner, your dreams and visions will start to take off.
Today take some time to think about what kind of accountability partner you need. Find one and start! It’s worth investing the time in one.
